one part scared the shet out of me.

Does anyone just start feeling the chills when the demon walks through the house and makes that growling sound at the crucifix and then the table cloth flys up and covers it? That's really horrifying.

Hell, yeah. That movie gives me nightmares to this damn day.

"FRA-GEE-LAY. That must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."

reply

Yes..I know what you mean. Very creepy scene.

The film is awesome!! The arm in the wall gets me everytime

I'm 37 years old & i still get chills when I think about the scene where his mother's creeping around the unlit house trying to escape the "demon".
It's the part where she slowly backs away from the door, straight into a twisted smiling Sonny.
That face !

I'll NEVER shake that off !

Hello I-I'm Harvey & I've come to give you jip

Ah the scene of the demon growling at the crucifix was soooo damn scary! A great example of how you don't need to have something jump out at you or show something really gory to make it terrifying. The entire time, it's just the camera movement and sound effects that give that scene so much terror. I think it was one of the most effective horror scenes I've ever seen.

reply

That was actually the sister, not the mother.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

I haven't watched this film in a while but the one part that scares the shiznit out of me is when Sonny is wondering around and then he goes in to that room (basement?) and then you just see this hand reach out to him. Everybody know the bit I'm talking about? simple, effective and just so dam creepy!

reply

omg that scared the crap out of me too! :O

reply

Oh yes. This is one of my fave films. I mean, its no classic but christ it has its moments! The Demon stalk thru the house bieng one of them!

The tablecloth scene gets to me to.Have to watch it again to see the hand in the wall scene.Another for me is the part where the ghost jumps on Sonny and pushes his stomach in while he's screaming.Scary film.

"If a snake bites me this weekend I'm gonna lay this bat upside your copperhead and rattle it!"

reply

SPOILER ALERT!

I think the scariest part for me is when Sonny goes after the family one by one shooting them while a horrible thunderstorm is happening at the same time. At the same time Sonny's older sister is trying to escape and save her younger brother when he gets downstairs and has to watch him get shot in the back. There was no escape for her doors were bolted, even the window she tried breaking with a chair couldn't be broken.

reply

I agree that scene was the scariest as well as the one with the hand

reply

all the scenes people are describing were totally creepy, But I am surprised no one mentioned at the end when sonny's face started ripping open exposing a horrid looking demon beast thing screaming... now that was some scary sheeeeeeeet!

reply

Oh yeah, that one was so freaking disturbing. Just the sort of thing you wanna see before you go to bed...not!

"She's got a...GREAT ASS! And you got your head all the way up it!"

reply

just that basement alone was creepy...when it touched the mothers arm......since that movie i hate being in basements alone.

The part that I never forgot was when the "demon" just stalked him, and we see everything from its point of view, closing in and just looking at him, and he'd turn around, you could see he *felt* it's prescence, tried to get away and it just kept following him. *shivers*

I was creeped out when the Priests "friend" asked him to go camping and was so eager to get with his buddy he hung up the priet's phone on Trish. Also, the fact that the priest slept on the cabin couch with his clothes on...sweater and all. And his friend again while they are driving to Amityville - keeps bugging the priest about where they are going. Just the way he looks at his friend. Creepy guy.

I agree "adammosquito" 100%! That is one of the only scenes in any movie that creeps me out!...Scary!

reply

What was perhaps more disturbing than scary was when the little sister put the plastic bag over the little brother's head.

That was pretty freaky. I was wondering why she was doing that.

Honestly, I found this movie kind of dull but I DID like the part where the priest picks up the phone and it's the daughter saying how worried she was that her brother was going to kill them....and this was AFTER they were murdered.

Yes, the tablecloth scene and the sound of the demon was very creepy - shame that noise and scene had to come to mind when I was by myself last night!
