Blessing of bodies upside down

It is easy to miss, but did anyone of you notice that when the dead bodies get carried out of the house, the priest blesses two of them by doing the mark of the cross with his hands?

He does it right-left-down-up, and not right-left-up-down, which is the traditional way. Like if he was doing a reverse cross.

Does it have any significance, you think?

reply

Maybe the dad and mom. I know they had material problems, but that could be it.

Kind of old, but which tradition? The Catholic version is forehead (up), chest (down), left shoulder then right shoulder.

If I recall correctly, the Orthodox version reverses the shoulders, but is otherwise the same.

I don't recall seeing anyone do right-left-up-down. (which doesn't mean I'm denying anyone doing so.)

I was raised Catholic. Can confirm.

As am I, which is why I thought the post was odd. Thanks for the confirmation android.
