Kirk Devane

I know that a lot of people don't like the first two seasons, and thought that the show was much better after Michael and Stephanie cam on (I agree with that), but I kinda liked Kirk. I thought that he and Dick (Bob Newhart) had pretty good chemistry.

Kirk is the original brash, know-it-all comedic character that is so popular in modern movies and television shows. Obnoxious. Self-centered. Greedy. Dumb. The opposite of Dick Loudon! I wish he would have come back now and then to the Stratford Inn to brag about his latest misadventures!

I agree! He should've at least come back to visit! Maybe there were some bad feelings among him and Bob or the producers. The only storyline with him I despised was when he had the fling with Stephanie and later she couldn't remember him supposedly and he felt so ok about that rejection that he allowed without objecting, his eventual wife, Cindy, to not only become friends with her, but also be a bridesmaid at their wedding? Just didn't make sense.

The Kirk/Stephanie situation was probably handled as well as possible. Kirk seemed more relieved than anything that Stephanie didn't remember him, as he clearly didn't want a relationship with her and didn't want any awkward moments between them at the inn. I'm glad they didn't have him trying to win her heart, as that had been overdone the season before with Leslie.

The part about the wedding that didn't make any sense was that Kirk's best man, Dick, absolutely couldn't stand him. It was a sad statement on Kirk's character that his supposed best friend didn't even like him.

It could've been funny to have kirk and Stephanie continue the affair or have him chase her like he did Leslie. I just didn't like the way it was handled at all, although obviously some don't agree.
