Ted Danson looks too knackered by the time of Diane Rebecca switch

Up to Season 6 watching these now. I hope Sam the womaniser is toned down a bit in the coming season as he's clearly getting well past it.

The character of the tragically trying to hold on to his youth ex baseball pro worked perfectly at the start but it looks like Ted Danson was hitting his 40s by the time of season 5. And it shows on screen.

I hope they somewhat mature his character as it moves forward otherwise it's going to become more and more cringeworthy rather than humourous.

Danson was in his late 30's around that time. I don't want to spoil it for you, so I won't tell you about whether his womanising ways get toned down.

It's alright - I'm not really expecting any great development in a comedy show character...

It's just funny though because I was watching an episode where Sam brings a date on Mr Drake's yacht and she asks how old do you reckon he is. And I was thinking well Tom Skerritt doesn't really look that much older than Ted Danson, so they're pushing the believability a bit here!

reply

Skerritt was in his 50's at the time of that episode. He is 15 years older than Danson.

Yeah but a 40 year old guy vs a guy in his 50s. My point was that they're both looking pretty old at either age.

AS A 41 YEAR OLD MAN...THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. NOEMOJI

You must be pretty young then. Both of those guys were very good-looking men, regardless of age. If age significantly affected their looks, I might agree that their playboy lifestyles may have been a bit far-fetched.

However….if anything, as both men got older, they remained good looking, but also got a bit more distinguished.

Also, they were both successful, which elevates their attractiveness to women.

Plus, women tend to be attracted to older, distinguished and successful men.

All this led to believability in my book. Plus, a huge part of the Cheers storyline and humor hinges on Sam being an aging lady’s man. Danson was perfect in that role.

It's not a case of being young per se.

It's just that a 40 year old guy, a 50 year old guy, both pretty old to the eyes of a woman in her 20s.

But in this particular episode the younger woman (who was with Sam) was effectively questioning whether one of them was too old.

As you said, they should really both have seemed attractive to her regardless if she liked older guys...

I don't know. Haven't seen that episode in a long time. Sometimes we have to suspend believability.
