rarely do i not enjoy an 80's slasher

and this was one of these occasions. i thought the film didnt really bring anything new to the table and was standard and run of the mill.

Does anyone think different?

i'd much rather reccomend canadian horrors like "funeral home (1980)", "curtains(1983)" and "killer party(1986)".

Wow. I kinda liked it. I liked its low-key atmosphere and its eschewing of typical horror conventions like using idiotic teens to be the victims. There are many things that try your suspension of disbelief such as them sending a 50-man SWAT team to the killer's house complete with gas masks and grenade launchers. But I've seen way worse things that will make me cringe in horror movies. Plus, I appreciate the fact that they went for a social message that wasn't preachy. Instead, they tried to show an idealistic woman having to put her beliefs out there in a stark, realistic situation where her life is on the line. Lastly, I enjoyed the fact that the ending wasn't so easygoing as many horror movies. In many slashers, the final girl walks away and it sort of has an uplifting moment. However, that type of ending dilutes the effectiveness of the overall story because it makes it seem as if she's going to be able to walk away happily after such a trying ordeal that brutally killed her friends and family. In this movie, you just know the survivors are going to be traumatized for the rest of their lives.
