The most cringe worthy movie of all time;

Crap, rubbish, stupid, utter dross. How anybody can rate this is beyond me.

Bill Murray was quite amusing in roughly the first half of the film. Strong supporting cast and good writing (for a comedy of this nature) as well.

For me the film has three acts. First is before the main characters join the army (the best part of the film). Second, the time spent at basic training (spotty, but some good moments). Then the third act . . .

After basic training it loses steam rapidly.

NO...WRONG.

If you call this movie crap, rubbish, stupid or utter dross, I'll kill ya!

this movie is utter crap, a load of rubbish, stupid and utter dross, anyone that thinks differently probably thinks Big Mommas House deserved an oscar.

I know I’ve said this before but my big problem with it is that the sex and nudity serves no purpose and it doesn’t make the movie any funnier. It comes across as adolescent and immature, not to mention a few scenes are borderline pornographic.

This movie is funny, yet every funny joke is PG. They should have taken the adult content out, it doesn’t serve a purpose and it isn’t funny.

The demographic this movie was aiming at, young adults 18-30, EXPECTED nudity and sexuality with no purpose in 1981, most R rated comedy movie made during that time had it (Caddyshack, Animal House, Porky's, Fast Times..) I do agree that the scenes were not really that funny, but was crowbarred in the movie to attract it's target audience.

Nudity/Sexuality just isn't seen in most movies today. The combination of the #metoo movement and porn on tap for young men (and women!) has downplayed this aspect of human nature on the big screen...almost a reversion to the 1950's. Hell.. even James Bond doesn't have a good sex scene anymore.

There was very little nudity in Caddyshack and the one sex scene that we did see did further the plot and it was hilarious to see Smails destroy his house upon finding out Danny porked Lacey. It didn’t feel gratuitous, in Stripes it was gratuitous as shit. And that’s fine if they were trying to appeal to 12 year old boys by throwing in a bunch of nudity but it did hurt the film. It would have been just as funny and it wouldn’t have been nearly as immature if they took out the adult content.

It's great until the graduate from Basic. Especially the underwear comment. I had the same conversation at basic.
