How good is this movie really?

I wanna start by saying I'm not here to badmouth this film or anything. However, I just want to pose a question to everyone. Is it really worth the 8.6 it has now? When you see Ender's Game (a film which I admittedly haven't seen), or a lot of old action stars new films, they're always given relatively poor reviews- 6.8 on here for example. It stands to reason that the scripts Harrison Ford took an interest in and accepted thirty years ago would be similar to the ones he chooses now, so why the huge disparity between ratings? Is it because he's slipping in his ability to discern between a good and a bad script? Or is it because of the age of Raiders, and of Star Wars, the- because of how much people enjoyed them when they were younger- that they are still regarded as such great movies?
This isn't a case of De Niro going over to comedy, so that argument doesn't work.

Just interested to see what people think

I personally think this film is one of the best adventure films of all time. Not quite as brilliant as Last Crusade, but very close.

It's considered as the best action-adventure-movie in movie-history. And in my opinion it is the best action-adventure-movie in movie-history too.

I don't care for it, really, but judging a movie as "8.6" or "6.8" makes no sense whatsoever and has become an extremely unfortunate trend.

Not only is is the best adventure film ever, it is one of the best films of all genres ever.
I gave it a 9/10. Non-stop adventure and fun from start to finish. Though what makes it works except directing and writing is Spielberg sense for tempo combined with Michael Kahn's editing. This makes the film feel fresh and exciting and not to much or to cramped as it could have turned out with a lesser director.
But it's also a combination of all these things that makes it such a good film, it can be argued.
Still the most fun you'll have watching a film!

Who can say, really? I've seen Raiders more times than I care to count. I can't help but be entertained by it every time. I watch great movies all the time. Many of them I've seen so much that I actively look for flaws, or something not to enjoy. Raiders, and the other two OT Indiana Jones movies are as close to flawless as movies get. They simply top notch entertainment. Fun, through and through. I can't say for sure what it is that makes it connect so well with audiences. Just that old Spielberg magic I guess.

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense but to answer your question, it's great - not good - and deserves to be even higher 8.6

It's still one of the 25 greatest films ever made. period.

It's by far the best movie of the entire decade ... nothing else in the 80's comes even close.
