of course it couldn't! Back then in 1981 it was perfectly legal!

After that movie was made and fastforward to 2001, an 18 year old and a 17 year old were no longer allowed to have sex with each other in America. And I assume that you are in American considering u typed this post. Age was nothing but a number back then as Aaliyah said in her hit song when you were judged by the content of ur character and not by a silly number you have no control over. Having consensual sex with a human being became illegal for adults in 2001.

This movie was made WAY before 2001.

It is true that until relatively recently, it was common (more than a century ago) for people under the age of 18 to get married. I am not saying that was right or wrong, I am just saying that is what happened.

There were laws before 1981 making sex with minors illegal, but the definition of the age and what sex actually is, does vary depending on the country and depending on the state within the United States. The laws were often not enforced as much as they are now.

Also, until relatively recently, in many (perhaps most) states of the United States, it was illegal for people not married to each other to have sex with each other. And that was often enforced.

Not today, certainly, in the "home of the brave", "land of the free", where you don't have the right of habeas corpus or any form of due process recognized by civilized countries just 20 years ago.

Some day, however, when the fascist forces who have taken over the U.S. have all been fed to the dogs, as they deserve, art and science both will be allowed to flourish as never before, and open public debate will resume over important matters of truth and justice, rather than the kangaroo courts and star chambers of what is now little more than a Banana Republic (albeit where the bananas are ballistic missiles and drones).

It's important for people to try to remember what the world was like before 9/11, before the fascists took over under the cover of protecting us from people who killed fewer Americans than Tobacco or prescription drugs did in the same year. I see no politicians lining up for war against Big Tobacco or Big Pharma...but we drop a LOAD in our pants over religious nuts in the middle east. Pussies! No, not we...YOU, those of you who let those idiots scare you into giving up your freedom.

You idiots even made 9/11 a NATIONAL HOLIDAY! Man, are you ever *beep* up. You let your national identity be formed by pieces of garbage who ram passenger jests into crowded buildings? Very strange. Not at all brave or free. Chickensh*ts!

Love is like breathing. You have to take some in and let it out to live.
