I just spotted a copy of what could be the European edition referred to in this thread, on ebay. FYI it's put out by an imprint called "XT Video" and has a German subtitle: "Der Kettensagenkiller." The scan of the cover is too small to make out the text on the back, but there are stills of the victims that I haven't seen in the copy I have.

Any links where I can get this in america? Or that cult classics collection?

I stumbled upon it at Best Buy tonite in a set of Four Movies labeled "Blood Bath Collection" I bought it just for Pieces (for $7)...not widescreen, not the best transfer but I have not seen this since I'd guess 1985\6 while in grade school...a couple scenes always stuck with me, especially the tennis player getting sliced & the very end scene.

Grindhouse Releasing is supposed to be putting out a new DVD of Pieces later this year (at least that is what was said at a recent screening of it at the New Beverly in LA). And if it is as good as the print they showed that night, it will be pristine. Unfortunately, I have yet to find any official word about it online.

I heard that too. Eli Roth confirmed at a screening at the New Bev that a collectors edition of the film will be coming out soon. He didn't give a date but it shouldn't be too long. The print was immaculate and a joy to watch. I'm looking forward to it.

According to the FANGORIA website, Everything is all set (DVD Artwork, etc) and it will be released this summer! Everyone wait for this one!!!

I also saw it on the Best Buy Blood Bath 4 pack and it was pretty gory with lots of nudity so was probably uncut. Picture quality I wouldn't consider amazing though. The movie's running time is 89 minutes. The other 3 movies on the disk are Devil's Nightmare, Kill Baby Kill and Kiss Me Kill Me.

There's a new DVD of Pieces coming out from Arrow Video in the UK with all new extras and front cover artwork.

I got the Arrow version in the mail today and I just watched it and it's great! Widescreen, completely uncut and the packaging is amazing!

Haven't see it on DVD yet, but the best version is the original Spanish VHS version called Mil gritos tiene la noche which I rented at a Mexican video store in the late 90's.

the arrow dvd is excellent!

Why is the Spanish version the best? Is it because of the dubbing or is it a different cut of the film?

"Mil Gritos Tiene La Noche" contains a memorable piano score specifically created for the picture by Librado Pastor, instead of the junk stock music taken from the CAM library that is heard in "Pieces." And it has dialogue that bears passing resemblance to expressions human beings might actually say. But the English language dub is so laughably ridiculous in every conceivable manner - forget being a faithful Spanish-to-English translation; half the time it's not even in the same galaxy compared to what was said in the Spanish version - that it elevates "Pieces" into a whole nother stratosphere of bad movie heaven.

And the Grindhouse Releasing DVD set is still the best 6 years after the fact.

The dvd that I have has both English and Spanish tracks. I only put the English because I had no idea that it was a Spanish production. I did switch it to the Spanish for a few moments and noticed the better score. I figured they dumbed it down for American audiences. I'm looking forward to seeing the other differences, but I have to really be in the right mood to handle watching this thing. I've seen it once so far, and it is some twisted stuff. I love horror films, but this one was so insane, it actually made me a bit uncomfortable. In fact, the hilarious English dialogue made it a bit easier to take. With a more serious translation I guess it will even be more intense. I avoided watching this movie for years because I thought it would be awful, but I was really impressed with it as a horror film. I think it's a lot better than "Maniac" for example, which is a fairly depressing film.

Of course the whole thing was dubbed in post but the actors on the set who could speak English were speaking that in their scenes (though the production did a pretty good job matching up the lip movements in most scenes regardless of which language dub you are hearing). It was the scenes where the actors were presumably not English speakers where the English dubbing was so ridiculous - and different - that it was laughable. I single out the scene where Ian Sera is in bed with the woman who won't stop moaning. (Ian can speak English but I don't think the actress could because they were clearly talking in Spanish while doing that scene.) In the Spanish dub, he says something like, "Why do you women always cry?" In the English dub, that gets changed to "Anyone would think you're in bed with Chainsaw Charlie." When she begs him to stay, she says something like, "You're leaving at this hour? Oh, Kendall." In English, that becomes, "Oh, honey. Where are you going? What if you gag me? I wouldn't make any noise then." "Bad chop suey!" was another English-only treat.

The American actors, for the most part, seemed to be treating the thing like a joke (particularly Lynda and Paul, though I don't think it's his voice in any version) while the people who did the Spanish looping for them seemed to take it a lot more seriously. Although I like the Spanish music score a lot better, it's much funnier in English.

I assume this is of no help to you now but for anyone wanting the uncut version from the UK. Arrow Film has it. I've just watched it and it was an excellent film.
