David Kessler +1

Do you have to open graves to find girls to fall in love with?

Eddie Quist, for my vote.

While the transformation in in "American Werewolf" was good, the werewolf itself ended up looked more like a dog. For me, the transformation & demonic-looking werewolves of "The Howling" are far superior. Both are good werewolf movies though.

So I guess we're at:

Another vote for Eddie Quist. What I really like about Eddie is he's damn creepy even before he turns into a werewolf. Great performance by Robert Picardo.

Eddie. The Howling is more creepy.

Well, Eddie Quist's transformation (in "The Howling"; effects by Rob Bottin) was more effective at communicating a menacing evil. Eddie, the antagonist, was an evil psychopath who enjoyed being a werewolf.

David Kessler's transformation (in "An American Werewolf in London"; effects by Rick Baker) is a whole different thing. David is the protagonist; we sympathize with him. He's a victim, not a villain, and is terrified by his transformation (which looks very painful).

while I did think that the werewolves in the howling were better looking, and the actor playing eddie did a great job. for my money I always thought the actual transformation in american werewolf was better.

I'm not saying I don't trust you and I'm not saying I do, but I don't:)

Though I like both transformations, I'd have to pick David's
because it showed his pain of transforming.

reply

both were great, but i gotta go with David Kessler here. the lighting and seeing his entire body transformation just seemed so real somehow, as he had no control over what was happening to him.

reply

Definitely Eddie, the transformation scene just looks so freakin' great.

Gotta go with Eddie, first time I saw this movie the transformation blew me away, not to mention the "howling" werewolf looks like it would kick the crap out of the Amercican Werewolf, since it stands about 7-8 feet tall.

When you get to this level its hard to choose between the two. Both imo were done by effects genius'.if i had to pick one id just go with the howling as its more minute whereas AAWIL is to a degree a series of cut aways.but like i said, for,me theres nothing in it.Any fan of either film should think either transformation is awesome.i don't think this level has been reached since.
