I just watched the scream factory Blu ray of this flick, an I have to say I was really disappointed. This movie might have been groundbreaking in the 80s, but now it's just too slow. Nothing happens until the last 20 minutes! What are werewolf movies that are actually scary and not boring?
You're obviously not too bright so you will probably like cgi crapfests like those moronic werewolf vs vampire movies. The Howling is one of the best werewolf movies ever so if you are too simple minded to enjoy it I don't think I can help you.
I just finished The Howling, I didn't care for it either. The best of the subgenre are easily American Werewolf in London (one of my favorite movies!) and Ginger Snaps. Those two really show what's unique about werewolf movies that other monsters can't quite grasp. The original The Wolf-Man with Lon Chaney Jr is also a fun time.
"Too Slow", or do you just not like story line development and progression up to a climax? In that case then you'll think An American Werewolf in London, which is probably the best werewolf movie of all time, is "too slow" too, or Ginger Snaps which deals more with the overall transformation than blood, guts and action all the time. Did you think Poltergeist, The Amityville Horror, or the Exorcist, three movies that are widely regarded as some of the scariest of all time, were too slow?
Werewolf movies (or any horror movie at that) shouldn't be monster/horror versions of The Expendables.
In terms of Werewolf movies, the best of all time, IMO: 1. An American Werewolf in London 2. Dog Soldiers 3. The Wolfman (1941 Lon Chaney) 4. In the Company of Wolves 5. Ginger Snaps 6. The Howling 7. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein 8. The Monster Squad 9. Silver Bullet (the actual werewolf is pretty lame looking at the end) 10. Bad Moon
Honorable Mention for having a highly enjoyable story with good acting but the worst looking werewolves ever: - Late Phases.
1) American werewolf in london 2) Wolfman 2010 3) Wolf (nicholson) 4) dog soldiers 5) silver bullet 6) original wolfman series (universal)
I also thought Ginger snaps ( allegory to a girl starting her menstrual cycle) and Blood Moon/Wolfgirl (a werewolf movie in reverse) were clever although both of those kinda lost focus at the end.
An American Werewolf in London is the only werewolf movie better than The Howling.
Here's a few decent werewolf movies though:
1.) An American Werewolf in London 2.) The Howling 3.) Silver Bullet 4.) Cursed 5.) Bad Moon 6.) The Boy Who Cried Werewolf (1973) 7.) The Beast Must Die (1974) 8.) Howling II ...Your Sister is a Werewolf (1985)
