I've only seen the first one so far but I've heard that some of the sequels are really enjoyable bad movies, which ones stand out as the most entertaining?
shareI usually stop after 2&3. Those are just so silly and over the top that you have to love them. After that they get pretty bad, and not even in a 'so bad it's good' kind of way. Of course watch them all at least once, but don't expect anything after 3 to be good...
shareYes a question I can answer definitively! The consensus is ,and I agree, is that 5 is the only sequal worth its salt. Its tame comparatively, but keeps the mood and has a little mystery. Part 4 & 6 have moments, thats it. Rest are silly cheap junk.
shareI love 2 for all its ridiculousness. Christopher Lee and Sybil Danning are great, I love the theme song that plays throughout and there's some awesomely bad effects including exploding eyeballs and a bat creature that eats a guy's face.
I really didn't like 3, but I don't remember it very well. 4 is a boring rehash of part 1 but there is one awesome scene where a guy melts and then re-emerges as a werewolf.
5 has bad acting but a great atmosphere, taking place at a spooky castle where a group of strangers are being picked off one by one by a werewolf among them. 6 is also decent taking place at a freak show where there's eventually a face off between a vampire and a werewolf.
Part 7 is hilariously bad, I'd never watch it again but I had some mild fun when I did. It has lots of random people from the west attempting to act and there's way too much line dancing. If I remember correctly most of the werewolf action was in flashbacks from 4 and 5.
Howling: Reborn bored me to tears, I couldn't even finish it. They were catering to Twilight fans with that one.
VI: The Freaks (1991) -- Good story about a drifter werewolf named Ian, a traveling carnival and a vampire. The werewolf may look like a member of Twisted Sister, but the canine legs are notable. Elizabeth is innocent to the ways of the world but she instinctively senses goodness in Ian, as does the "alligator boy." Harker, by contrast, possesses a sinister edge despite his great charisma. Speaking of which, Bruce Payne is outstanding here.

The first Howling is the only decent one.
Howling II, just for the end credits: the song, Sybil Danning's voluptuous tits and the reactions to them, the editor sure had some fun with that!

The Howling might be the worst long running franchise when it comes to the sequels. Right up there with Children of the Corn and the Amityville movies.
