I was 12,and remember my parents renting it,and was super excited as I'd only just seen the original on television.As much as I loved the 1st one,this creeped me out a lot more,tho I did sneak down stairs the next morning before my parents awoke to watch it again.I always found the sequel a lot more darker, violent and bloody .Those dark empty hospital corridors,atmosphere of dread,and that red glow in the basement stayed with me for a while.

shareI was probably a freshman in high school when I saw it (I saw the original on Halloween night in 8th grade). I liked it but, at the time, hated the remade score and hated some of the ending (MM being shot in both eyes and not being completely dead as a fuckin pile of trash!). However, with repeat viewings, I started to love it. I love the score now (and almost all of Carpenter's music, especially Halloween 2018), and while the shot in the eyes part still bugs me a bit, I can forgive it as I love the movie and its dark atmosphere!

After watching ANOES a year earlier, I was pretty much desensitized to it all.
I just really appreciated it. It goes together with the original so well, you'd think they made them back to back.
Dick Warlock is a fantastic Michael Myers, IMO. I like the approach he took in making his walk more mechanical, almost like the evil that is controlling Michael is doing the walking, not himself.
I personally like the cast of characters better as well. Even though they were fodder, they had a lot more personality than in the original.
Carpenters music has always been great, but adding in that early '80s Synthesizer was amazing. And the music that plays when Michael is after Laurie is so menacing and effective. No one in the horror genre can even come close to touching Carpenter when it comes to the music.
Whenever someone talks about sequels that were actually good, my mind always goes to this.
I was probably in my late teens when I watched it and it didn't really scare me..But I agree it had a more overall creepy tone being in the empty, dark hospital. Halloween II has always been one of my favorite sequels.

Probably didn't see it till a year or two later, when it was on cable. I'm sure it scared me. Horror movies usually did at that age.
It's far scarier, that's why I prefer the original film, similar film in style, but less scary. I saw this sequel as a child, it's frightening mainly because Myers looks and feels more inhuman and out of this world. The energy behind this film is so frightening that it could be dangerous, creating some havoc in my life if I let this film inside of me too much.
shareI was 16 and saw it in the theater with a girlfriend. There was A LOT of screaming! I especially remember how the audience reacted when Laurie encountered The Shape. That entire chase sequence was so intense and it had the desired effect on the audience, with plenty of screaming, hollering, etc.
There have been several Halloween sequels, but Halloween II, in my opinion, is the only one where The Shape feels like The Shape.
The music in the first two scared me more anything as a kid.
