Hockey mask vs. burlap sack?

This year, I'm reviewing my 31 favorite horror movie sequels every day of October. And of course, I'm including Friday the 13th Part 2. Full review here: http://myvinylmuse.com/horror-sequel-marathon-friday-the-13th-part-2-1981/

While the Jason mask is iconic now. I always found the burlap sack to be much scarier, if possibly less intimidating. Anybody else feel the same?

I found the sack more tragic than scary. How ugly could this poor man's face be that he'll put anything over his head to cover it? At least a hockey mask is meant to go on ones face.

I like the burlap sack and the whole backwoods redneck vibe Jason was fashioned with, but the hockey mask is iconic.

No! You *can't* be alive!

I think they needed to quickly move away from the sack hood/overalls look for Jason in order further differentiate him from Michael Myers/Halloween.

reply

His look in pt. 2 is as scary as it got.

reply

I liked sack mask Jason from this movie too. Though his hockey mask is pretty good too.

The sack & the look of Jason reminds me too much of this movie...

Wow! I saw this thread and thought everyone would say hockey mask. Pleasantly surprised to see the sack getting such responses since that look really didn't get much of a chance.

People think it makes them sound original and enlightened by saying they like the laughably generic and lazy sack better than the iconic goalie mask. They are the same type of people who pretend to like Halloween III.

Or some people just have preferences.

reply

And some people have feigned preferences.

I prefer the iconic hockey mask, but I can definitely see how the burlap sack could be considered creepier.

2 is my favouorite sequel, so there is a part of me that prefers the sack. Jason was more human in the sack. The mask I equate with more indestructible, immortal Jason.
