What we didn't know at the time, was that she meant it. She needed someone not too smart.
The next two lines were great too
[Ned] .... what else do you like lazy, horny, ugly? I got 'em all.
[Matty] You don't look lazy.
He was a lawyer - how could he not be smart?
And he figured out the whole scenario at the end. He seemed pretty bright to me.
It should be:
Matty:

The kicker of that quote, to me, is what Teddy says after. "You know you told me that?" They never answer out loud, but you figure it out from the dialogue that follows that it was Ned who told him that.
