Disney's Guide To The Galaxy

What's all this I hear of Disney buying the rights to make the Hitch-hiker movie? Does this mean some parts will be 'toned down' (such as the sudden demise of the suddenly created sperm whale in outer space). One of Douglas Adams' dreams for HHGTG was to see the whale explode on the ground (see the making of), and it looks like we may never see that happen. What are all your thoughts on this?

most of you guys have either never properly read H2G2, checked up on the development of this movie or are talking out of your bottoms!!

firstly if you are a REAl fan, the TV series was total CR*P! secondly throwing meaningless names around like Brad Pitt etc. etc. proves that you know NOTHING about H2G2 anyone that could think even Brad Pitt, or Salma Hayak or Johnny Depp (great actor btw)et al could even be referred to in the same sentence as H2G2 is just mentally deranged.

oh and DNA went through numerous rewrites and numerous prospective publishers before he died trying to get the 'feel' right. in fact as someone pointed out Douglas was very happy with how Disney was taking H2G2 filmwise and was working on a 'final' script before he died.

as for H2G2 taking longer to get to the screen because Douglas died is total cr*p again! the fact that douglas died WAS the reason the film got made at all (the scipt has been knocking around for the last 10 or 15 years or so). please do your research i have been reading DNA since i was 8 (about 20 years ago) and the fact that the film is being made at all, should make most people breathe a sigh of relief even if it is going to be bad. 9which it wont be, just check out the official site)

im sorry but Brad Pitt as Arthur or Ford. oh please!!! just go open another beer and turn over to American Gladiators (at least thats in your mental remit)

Nomarch!

You said to me (well, I'm involved in "you guys") to do my research before I come here and jabber? You talk? If you'd a TRUE fan, you wouldn't handle the news that DNA himself wrote the screenplay as a top secret stuff, that only previligous people know. Everyone knows that. Btw if you are a real fan, than you respect all the incarnations of H2G2 - even the TV series, although it was crap, even DNA admitted that.
And if you would have checked the development of this movie, you would know, that there were realllly, realllly bad chioce for the roles, such as Hugh Grant or Jack Davenport as Arthur, Jim Carrey, yes Jim Carrey for Zaphod Beeblebrox and so on. And I don't know what is your problem with professional actors (well, I do not know who posed Brad Pitt for Arthur, but he was an idiot), because I don't want this movie to get all kind of gibbering youngsters to play all the roles, you know it is not "killing the spirit out of H2G2" of involve professionals as well. (Well, as I have already stated I think all of the roles are filled with very good actors/choices.)
Oh, and by the way I imagine you like a "Mos-Def-for-Ford-Prefect?!-Oh-please" guy, and I'm kinda sick of them!
Sorry, but I think you hurt a couple of H2G2 fans, so you really deserved this.

Ok, guys, you really need to take a "Channels of Distrubution" business course. Listen, Disney is the DISTRIBUTOR of the film. Rather like how they DISTRUBUTED the classic "TRON".

Besides, they fired their top man and with the divorce from Pixar, chances are they are going to be a film distributing firm in the future as opposed to a film making company.

Mos Def rocks, man! He's a great actor. Not the best, but a pretty decent one.

Ford was definately the funniest character in the movie.

If we're still on the subject of an alternative cast for now...:

Arthur - Jack Davenport
Ford - Martin Freeman/Richard Coyle
Trillian - Difficult, but I'm vaguely tempted by Daisy Haggard
Zaphod - Kevin Kline (or maybe Jack Nicholson though he's perhaps a little old)
Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz - Richard Griffiths
Marvin - STILL Stephen Moore. There is no one better.
Book - Benedict Cumberbatch
Prosser - Mel Smith
Slartibartfast - Clive Swift
Majikthise - Alan Rickman
Vroomfondle - Reece Shearsmith
Deep Thought - I wish Ian Richardson were still alive, but he isn't, so Christopher Lee.
Max Quardlepleen - Anton Lesser/John Sessions
Frankie and Benjie Mouse - Rosearik Rikki Simons and Richard Horvitz (in their Gir/Invader Zim voices)
Dish of the day - Timothy Spall
Smug, self-satisfied doors - Stephen Hawking
