Needs Remade
Who else agrees that Disney NEEDS no HAS to remake this, but make it even darker and re-write the story and get rid of the alien crap and make it more of a ghost story

shareWow; didn't realize this thread was still alive. I only commented on it, oh, four years ago! Hahaha. Anyway, I'd like a remake of this movie, just to see what they could come up with. It's a great concept and this film is a classic, and IF they could get a good director and writer behind it then it could be freakin' brilliant.
shareSince John Hough was interfered with the first time around, why not bring him out of retirement and let him do the film he wanted the first time around?
Of course, the easy thing to do would be to release it under their Touchstone or Hollywood Pictures arm. But that would defeat the point of what Disney was trying to do 30 years ago, when they got cold feet about doing a scary film under their banner. They have already gone into PG-13 rating territory with all their Jerry Bruckheimer productions; do it again in PG-13 territory, and keep the Disney banner on the front.
I hate remakes for the most part. 1 in 20 is only okay . . . 1 in 50 is actually good . . . Odds are it will be junk if it is remade. I can't believe that they have an incomplete, alternate ending as one of the goofs listed for this film. Seriously, they go on about the wires being visible; it's a joke because it isn't completed at all and the way it moves looks like a marionette to begin with, which is why they scrapped it. Anyway, leave some things alone. I don't want the CGI version of this.
shareI really wouldn't mind a remake of this considering the film is complete pants.
The only films that should be remade are films that didn't work the first time.
I've always said this.
There are exceptions ("Thing From Another World" is fantastic but Carpenter obviously had something to say).
Just don't remake classics (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL? Really? What's next? GONE WITH THE WIND?) and I'll be perfectly fine with remakes.
Disney's other horror offering, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, is quite good and is in no need of a revamp.
Hell, it's better than Bradbury's clumsy book.
A 3-D Spaghetti Western rereleased to theatres cominatyanoir3d.com Comin' soon!

I wouldn't want them to change the story if this was remade, I actually really like the mix of sci-fi and gothic horror story - it's different and original. Remakes are usually pretty bad but I think a "watcher" remake could be good if they didn't over do the CGI and kept the same kind of atmosphere the 1980 version had, I don't think Disney would risk remaking it though.
shareI liked the explanation at the end even if it felt kind of clumsy and rushed, they should have doled it out through the movie with bigger hints instead of just tacking it on. A remake would be a good idea if done appropriately. It is a fairly original premise and a nice spin on the familiar ghost/occult horror story, and it certainly scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
