I don't understand the shock over Bud and Wes hitting Sissy. In the real world there are a lot of relationships that are like Bud and Sissy's, and there are a hell of a lot of Wes Hightowers. Now even thought that is a duh fact there are still morons that get upset when they see things like that in a movie.
Maybe this is so because Urban Cowboy was made in 1980. If it was made today they would make it as PC as possible fearing that they might offend somebody. It makes me sick.

It made for a good Movie, and more young guys than want to admit have gotten pissed, and slapped a woman....A lot of selective memory goes on now days..Course the reverse is true also, I know a few Women who have knocked the crap out of a guy before.....Hitting has been going on since the beginning of time, and despite the best PC efforts, im sure it will be with us for a long time to come..

shareFrom my POV it's better to walk away than to hit someone. Your anger might get the better of you and a smack can lead to choking with might lead to death.

It's not that easy to walk out of a trailer when the person who's annoying you is standing between you and the door. I agree with you though - much better to walk away. On the other hand, it takes two to tango, and both parties should walk away - before they hit the other person, or before they provoke the person to physical violence. After Sissy had made her point about riding the mechanical bull she should have shut up. She was verbally goading him, and to that extent she's just as responsible.
And Wes got physical when Sissy threw the carton of milk at him and hit him in the back. I'm not excusing their behavior, just pointing out the context in which the violence occurred.
