Oh my GOD, I was so in love with John Travolta when this first came out. I just watched this last night for the first time in YEARS and had almost forgotten how amazingly sexy he was in this movie.
I remember seeing this at the drive in when it came out with my family in our big brown station at the age of 7. I don't think my parents knew that it was going to have so many adult issues in it. But saying that I don't remember at the time understanding it or being affected by it. I just remember John Travolta and the great music. We were not big country music fans but Boz Scaggs was mixed in there and we loved the Eagles. But I fell in love with the whole soundtrack as well as John Travolta. I know I was young and it may be weird, but he was my first love!! I actually didn't see Grease until after Urban Cowboy. So this was my first introduction to him. Grease just added to my crush. I even named my two hamster Bud & Sissy!..lol. This movie is a gem. I am not attracted to him anymore, and I get funny looks when us ladies talk about our first crush and I say John Travolta. So I tell them to watch Urban Cowboy and then get back to me. 95% of the time they say, ok , I understand now. Even with Grease or Saturday night fever, which I didn't even think he was attractive. This movie with him did it for me...every time I see its on I have to watch it and still get excited to see how hot he was.....who knew his looks wouldn't hold up or that he would not be a heartthrob anymore. I think Scott Glenn aged better..oh we'll at least I have Urban Cowboy.
Did you later come across him in reruns of the 70’s tv show Welcome Back Kotter? I’d be interested to know if you found him attractive in the Vinnie Babarino role.
