Black Christmas
Halloween I & II
Psycho
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th Part 2
Runners up include Hell Night and Friday the 13th.
I've purposely left out movies like Texas Chainsaw, Hills Have Eyes, and Devil's Rejects because I feel they are more cannibalism/exploitation films than slashers.

1. Black Christmas
2. Friday the 13th
3. Silent Night, Deadly Night
4. Nightmare on Elm Street
5. Psycho
Wow, this is amazing that most ppl listed most of mine already...
In no order:
1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original)
2) Black Christmas
3) Halloween
The next 2 were hard to choose from...these are simply my favorite of the rest.
4) Copycat
5) The Prowler
I've never considered Texas Chainsaw to be a slasher. It's a lot more than that IMO.

I never really understood the meaning behind this. Firstly, Texas Chainsaw has four teenagers hacked up in different ways, with a total of 5 dead people. I think that it classifies as a slasher in that respect.
As for being "more than that", I think that slasher flicks, while some abysmal and ridiculous cash-ins, do have merit in the horror genre. People always lift up zombie films and thrillers, but those are just as repetitive as slasher films. I mean, sure, for every one great one, there are the other 10, but slashers are not nearly as bad as Siskel, Ebert, and the other haters take credit away from. They can be pretty damn good horror.
Oh, and my top 5?

You have a Stage Fright listed from 1987 but one doesn't exist. Do you mean the one from 1980?

StageFright is an Italian slasher movie from 1987. Just don't separate stage and fright.
