John Lennon

Is any of this film supposed to be a statement about John Lennon. It’s fascinating how the Shining just so happens to be released the same year John Lennon dies, and one could see Jack, Wendy, and Danny in the Overlook as parallel to John, Yoko, and Sean in the Dakota. Also John Lennon has the song “Instant Karma” which features the lyrics “we all shine on.” And, Kubrick was supposed to make a Lord of the Rings movie starring The Beatles, whose album Magical Mystery Tour appears in the record store scene in A Clockwork Orange.

This movie was made in 1979, when John Lennon was still alive. The "we all shine on" lyrics probably influenced Stephen King.

'This movie was made in 1979, when John Lennon was still alive...'

That sound we can hear is the sound of a theory being shot down, crashing, and burning.

Actually, yes, the book that is.

Only the title though..

Stephen King did have Lennon on his mind with it ("We all shine on").

The rest of it is a personal experience King had, although it is possible, with Lennon and Ono being so immersed in the occult and paranormal - it's possible he thought of them as well.

I don't think Kubrick had Lennon on his mind at all when he made "The SHining"
