POPEYE fans! POPEYE haters!

Or maybe you're undecided.

I still can't believe someone actually made a live-action Popeye movie --especially Robert Altman of all people.

My friend and I recorded a podcast about it:

I think this performance would have been better on a broadway stage than a film. Keep all the actors and other crew and put them in a stage production. This wasn't right for a film. Oh yeah, and get a better composer/song writer for the music.

Not to say that I don't like Harry Nilsson as a songwriter...I just didn't think he was right for this production.

I must plant myself squarely on the "love it" side of the fence; although, I can see why many people don't like it--it's just plain weird, but the Popeye cartoons are all weird, too.

What I can't understand is why many people don't like the music. For my money, it is the single-most wonderful part of the movie. "Everything Is Food" is my personal favorite. There's just something about it that is comforting--just a beautiful song.

I don't expect to change anyone's mind nor do wish to, but I think this movie is a wonderfully weird little film with great songs and performances. Gonna watch it tonight.

I think the movie is awesome! I saw it in the theaters when it first came out and I can watch it over and over. Think about the source material. There's no way anyway they could've made a live action POPEYE movie better than this!

Saw it as a kid, hated it. Saw it again last week, enjoyed it.
