... only 4th best for me of the Star Wars films.
Continuing my New Years tradition of watching the original trilogy.
There are definite problems in this film, but it's still thoroughly enjoyable. It also moves at a fast pace. Which is certainly not a bad thing.
Onto Return of the Jedi... (my 3rd favourite). 1st film being my favourite, and 2nd is Revenge of the Sith.

shareMost of the older fans prefer Empire as the best thanks to having the best script, best acting and thus more depth to the characters and story. That's the key as that gives the movie a solid foundation on which all the action & sfx can be built on.
The reason why the prequels were unpopular with many 'original trilogy' fans is because they were the opposite of Empire i.e. Lucas filmed them using the first draft of a half assed written script, and gave little direction to his actors, meaning no matter how much action he threw on top on them, it still couldn't make up for the lack of substance to its characters and story.
