I read about John Merrick when I was in junior high school in the 70's. I've been a John Hurt fan since seeing him in I,Claudius on TV, I've loved Anthony Hopkins since seeing him in Magic. I've found David Lynch to be an interesting and disturbing director since I saw Eraserhead. I've loved Mel Books since Blazing Saddles. Finding out they were working together to get The Elephant Man's story made into a movie is the reason I saw it when it first came out.
