Is the new remake of 'House of Wax' really a remake of this movie???

Man I forgot about this movie until i've seen the new trailer for the 2005 remake to vincent price's classic "The House of Wax".
i mean really watch the trailer and then see this one (if you can find it) and you should see what i mean.

"Tourist Trap" was one of my all time fav's when i was a kid.
A very campy film but a very decent horror film compaired to the crap made today.
rent it trough netflix if you have to .. very much worth it.

THANK GOD--I have finally found someone who noticed it as well!! I have posted the following message a couple of times on the HoW board and apparently no one has ever heard of or seen Tourist Trap!!

"PLEASE, people, someone, anyone answer this if possible...has anyone seen the movie "Tourist Trap" and does anyone realize that this movie seems to be a remake of Tourist Trap, and not a real remake of either of the previous House of Wax movies?

I cannot believe that no one seems to bring this up or see it. It seems like the creators of House of Wax really wanted to remake Tourist Trap, realizing that it is a TRULY creepy, freaky, good movie. But knowing that it was never as well-known as House of Wax they couldn't bank on it so to speak, so they decided to call it House of Wax and attempt to cash in on Vincent Price's fame and name instead. Please realize that I am in no way stating that as a fact, just wondering if it is at all possible?

I do not understand how anyone who has seen the original House of Wax or the 1953 remake of House of Wax, Tourist Trap and this movie can not consider this as a possibility but it seems like no one has seen Tourist Trap! I just want to know if anyone agrees! House of Wax has almost nothing at all in common with the previous two except the title but it has a LOT in common with Tourist Trap. Well either way I highly recommend that people check out Tourist Trap...low budget and very, very creepy!!!!"

"And what would a note say, Dan? 'Cat dead, details later'?"

I have´nt seen seen this movie(Tourist trap) but i saw the trailer and the House of wax remake(2005) looks like more of a remake of this one and the Texas chainsaw massacre remake(2003). The only thing thats similar with the 2005 and the killer makes wax sculptures of his victims.

A lot of big Hollywood movies steal ideas from a film that is not very well known, look at THE MATRIX and the 1986 film ROBOT HOLOCAUST. I'm sure they just stole ideas from TOURIST TRAP and then wrote them into the HOUSE OF WAX remake, like it was the more popular movie. Remake this, but title it HOUSE OF WAX for promotional reasons.

I agree with you, daughterofolaf. Tourist Trap freaked me out wildly as a kid, and it was many years later before I re-watched it on DVD as an adult. Still freaky as hell.

When I finally saw the House of Wax "remake", I was only about 20 minutes in before I started saying to myself, "You know, this is a lot more like 'Tourist Trap' than Vincent Price's 'House of Wax'". And sure enough, the rest of the film bore that out. (Frankly, the "remake" has virtually nothing in common with the old HOW.)

Sure, there are a couple major changes: A) The Wax theme, of course-- although Chuck Connors DID use a similarly horrible technique to suffocate his mannequin-victims; and B) the "crazy brother" actually DOES exist, and is not a split-off multiple personality. Oh, and C) the brothers are NOT telekinetic.

So, overall, there is quite a lot of similarity in plot, characters, etc. I'm glad others feel this way. Although, at the same time, they are quite different films, TOURIST TRAP being the superior one IMO.

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.
