Is the new remake of 'House of Wax' really a remake of this movie???

Man I forgot about this movie until i've seen the new trailer for the 2005 remake to vincent price's classic "The House of Wax".
i mean really watch the trailer and then see this one (if you can find it) and you should see what i mean.

"Tourist Trap" was one of my all time fav's when i was a kid.
A very campy film but a very decent horror film compaired to the crap made today.
rent it trough netflix if you have to .. very much worth it.

Hey, I wondered the same thing about the House of wax remake. I think they were also very much inspired by Tourist Trap. I have the dvd, one of my favorites.

I still think the House of wax remake looks pretty good though.

No, House of Wax is definatly not a remake of this movie. I saw House of Wax yesterday, very good movie. I wouldn't even call House of Wax a remake from the original. Two completely different stories. There is no remake of Tourist Trap but I'd love one.

The films are quite similar in ways, they're not conntected. TOURIST TRAP is more forgotten these days.

PS: I'd hate to see this remade. It's one of the greatest horror movies.

#1 HOUSE OF WAX (1953) is a remake of MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933).

#2 To answer your question: YES, HOW (2005) nis more a remake of TOURIST TRAP than MWM (1933) or HOW (1953).

The only thing really missing is the psuedo psychic mumbo-jumbo. Apart from that, the set-up and plots are strikingly similar -even to the female-appearing manniquin mask worn by the bad guys.

I agree totally upon seeing the trailer I was reminded of the movie i had seen when i was just 10 years old (tourist trap) - my memory is still there as i remembered the title and came here to look it up and see if this was indeed a remake. that suffocation scene still haunts my memory today. I stumbled on this forum and so pleased it seems that quite a few people thought the same thing!!

On the HOUSE OF WAX DVD they even say that it's more like Tourist Trap then the old House of Wax.

gb...or anyone...where on the House of Wax dvd do they ever mention TT? I have watched all the special features and I have never heard them talk about TT--or was it in the commentary?

Tourist Trap was great. Chuck Connors' best performance and Tanya Roberts was a young babe.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed all the similarities, lol. My favorite scene in Tourist Trap is always the one where the maniac is covering his victim with the wax, while describing all the horrible things that are happening. When I saw what was basically the SAME SCENE in the House of Wax remake, I couldn't believe that the people behind the making of Tourist Trap didn't sue 'em, lol.

Deeeeeeep hurting!!!!!!!

Tourist Trap is incredibly superior to House of Wax (original and the remake), even for today's standards given the ultra-eerie scenes that ocurr in it plus the great music.

No horror movie today has such a great soundtrack.

I've been talking to a friend. I guess it's possible the 2005 remake of HOUSE OF WAX was supposed to be a remake, but like all others (except PSYCHO) the writers attempt to change the story. I guess the writers have seen TOURIST TRAP.

I thought I was nuts when I watched the remake of "House of Wax", because I immediately made a connection between that film, and "Tourist Trap"--many, many similarities, but overall I would have to rate "Tourist Trap" a little higher.

Having seen both films, it definitely appears that "House of Wax" (2005) is more of a remake of "Tourist Trap" than the original "House of Wax." Five teenagers are stranded in the middle of nowhere while on vacation, (a horror cliche used in many horror films) and they encounter a creepy small town guy who works in a wax museum and whose brother makes wax figurines. The gas station attendent even acts like Chuck Connor's character with his fascination with Elisha Cuthburt's character. Both "crazy brothers" wear feminine looking masks as well. Minus the supernatural elements, "House of Wax" 2005 seems to have taken all it's ideas from "Tourist Trap".
