Agreed. I had no problem with the one poster's saying that the film had a 'gay' theme, although I strongly disagreed with him. What bothered me was that he kept alluding to some scene where Ben and Mark were taking a shower together and how Ben 'comforted' Mark in this scene. He seemed to be obsessed with this scene as he kept talking so much about and how he very much wanted to see it. I had at one time, the VHS tape of the movie and he asked me if the shower scene was in it. FTR, I don't believe any such scene was ever filmed.

That was one thing that bothered me about that poster.

Another issue was how he would bring this 'gay' theme up in threads where it was not relevant to the subject under discussion.

If these things were not an obsession with him, then the only other explanation I can think of is that he was (and is) a troll, making obnoxious posts just to provoke a reaction from us.

Either he is a troll or he needs help very badly. Maybe both.

reply

The funny thing is I was willing to discuss the "gay" topic with him/her/it, and gave it serious thought as to how it "could" occur, but I ruled it out. After that...troll city.

That whole thing was ridiculous from the start. Some people see what they want to see in everything in order to validate their sickness.

reply

Now you really see what the internet does to people, and it's scary.

Here is an example. Wiltado is highlighted.
Why did Cully suggest that Larry must have liked his own shorts?
He kept them on.

How did Mark know that Matt died?

Very good on the shorts!

Mark knew that Matt had died because he said he saw it on Ben's face.

'The wounds were beyond bandaging. Only amputation remained.'

What part of Susan's life does the above quote refer to?

Cheers.

Her living at home with her parents.
It is from the thread called 'Who Said This?'

Or maybe this one in the thread on the Plot hole regarding Susan's fate:

This plot hole always bothered me too as I first watched the 112-minute VHS film version and for a number of years thought that was the only version available. Can you imagine my surprise when I stumbled across the full 3-hour miniseries on television? The ending left me floored to say the least. After reading the novel and watching the miniseries I must agree with some other posters that the omission of Susan's fate until the very end was problematic.

And as much as some of the regular posters here despise it, the 2004 effort handled Susan's fate a lot better, I thought.

It is quite simple.. Susan figured out what was going on with Mark and Ben... She was jealous of their relationship and pursued them to Mexico. Even as a vampire she still wanted Ben but Ben had moved on with Mark and had to kill her. It was actually a love triangle of epic proportions. Great story telling on Stephen King's part!
Simple honest opinion or trolling? To be honest, they strike me as the acts of a troll more than anything else. Sorry wiltado, but that's how I see it.

reply

He knows what he's doing Gary. His reappearance is because of guilt. IMDb is getting rid of comments because of trolls and the head troll is trying to save face.

I'd tend to agree with you on the guilt part. Otherwise, why post this?

From wiltado on 2/4/17

I would like thank Salem's Lot Top Message Board posters...

such as:

gary_overman
stone78
elmadman_99

they are very passionate Salem's Lot fans and have been very knowledgeable about this movie and have guided so many threads...

much thanks to them for their insights on the movie...
their posts will be missed..
:)
He knew very well what he was doing earlier and this post is nothing more than an effort to ease his conscience.

Bingo Gary!

reply

may I recommend that we just ignore him/her/it for the duration? Him/her/it probably gets off on this stuff.

reply

I prefer it. It gets off on this stuff.

Jeeez....

Unless you really believe your input and posts changed the message boards for the better?

Wow .........
This is a certainly a claim that you can't make.

reply

all of him/her/it's posts have mysteriously disappeared...maybe he really likes us:)

reply

I hope that he leaves us in peace for the rest of the time we have left. I honestly bear him no ill will, but I am convinced that he was a troll, and not simply expressing honest opinion.

reply

he deleted it, not the admin...very odd.

reply

He also thinks I picked on him, which may've happened once. I would've engaged him on the "gay" topic though, but he just wanted to be a pain, I guess.

reply

That topic had no place in this movie Stones, period. He was a liberal troll pushing his personal agenda on us.
If it was a cry for help this wasn't the way to go about it. I wouldn't have engaged him no matter what he suggested, he was still trolling.

reply

why would he delete himself? I can see if the admin did, but they never do with him.

reply

He's embarrassed because he was exposed. I made a case against him being guilty for trolling and Gary provided the evidence.

reply

I don't think he gets embarrassed, but whatever. FWIW, there's some cool clips on YT of scenes with blu-ray.

reply

He doesn't get embarrassed only when he thinks he has the upper hand, he lost that when the truth hit him. Deleting his comments is a way of covering his tracks.
Blu-Ray is only effective when you watch it on a Blu-Ray player. Otherwise, it looks no different than anything else.

reply

That's what I was told, but the BR clips compared to the regular clips do look different on YT. Watch the "face the Master" clips and compare on YT. I was amazed.

reply

Right now he's hoping that we will delete our comments. I'll only do that if Gary deletes his.

reply

why would he delete himself? I can see if the admin did, but they never do with him.
In all fairness, they did at one time. It was several months back but they did. Remember? After that, his next appearance here was the one recently.

It's a shame really. If IMDb would delete the accounts of people like him, it would be so much easier and people like the rest of us wouldn't suffer as a result.

The problem is, however, who do you dismiss as trolls? I've been to boards of films I didn't care for and the regular posters reacted very negatively. They likely regarded me as a troll.

I do think that wiltado was a troll. The difference is that after they made it clear that my opinions were not welcome, I didn't go back.

reply

The "gay" angle was far-fetched, but I was willing to discuss it at least, but he took it to an extreme. I only sent him a threatening PM after he posted fake quotes from me, which I never posted. Some boards are insufferable though, like The Dark Knight, and Halloween, and I can see why imdb would consider ditching some of them, but overall, their leaving millions of honest folks hung out to dry. I'm not doing Twittwer or Facebook, when this is done, then I'm done with msg boards. FWIW, you can read many reviews from me from over 400 reviews:)

reply

This SL page is turning into the Jangoq/Stones/Gary show.

reply

might as well leave everything on the line before time's up.

reply

Going out with guns blazing!

reply

I knew this would happen. He's gone because we exposed him Gary. He was found guilty as a troll and had no where else to go but to cover his tracks.

reply

This is my first - and as it so happens last - post on this topic.

I have a shooting script for the film, from June 11 1979 (see the post labelled Script notes on Salem's Lot) all of the deleted material is included there.

I can state as a FACT that there NEVER was (either filmed or un-filmed) a 'shower' or 'gay' related scene with Ben and Mark.

As far as I am concerned that is the end of the discussion.

Can we please talk about something else in the time that remains for the board here?

Cheers for now.

reply

This is your shortest post since you've been here elmadman and it is awesome!
Why don't you just type your thoughts rather than posting lengthy stuff written by others.

I think You have a talent for expression and imagination that can be of real value to someone.

reply

Ok, 'Jangoq', you got me there!

Like the guy says in the song: 'The hour is growing late.'

The reason - and there is really only one - for posing such lengthy and detailed information on a 38 year old movie is that I have a desire to start a debate on any topic linked to the film, and a good way to achieve that is by lengthy posts, so as to give people something 'to get their teeth stuck into' (pun intended) and lead the way for debate.

I strongly feel that there will soon come a time - February 20th to be exact - that no amount of debate will matter, so it's a moot point now anyway.

Has everyone registered on the petition sites to stop the cancellation of the boards?

For my part I know I have, but I am genuinely not sure how much difference it will make in the real world.

I will miss the boards, the cancellation is kind of like having a enjoyable if silly hobby taken away!

Cheers for now.

I went back & forth with the gay- obsessed poster until I realized he was a troll. It is obvious to any serious viewer of Salem's Lot that no such scene (showering) ever existed (especially in a TV movie in 1979). Then he got on kick about how "Ben gazed at Mark" when they exchanged glances in Straker's shop- implying a homoerotic connection. It was trolling at it's worse.
