I remember this being much more convoluted...

I watched this with my wife last night and I was disappointed. I had first seen it about 25 years ago when a friend shared it with me. The thing is that I remembered it as being even more convoluted than it was.

What I remember was that after the Katherine Ross / Richard Anderson plot was revealed and that still didn't work out, that it was revealed that Richard Anderson and Hal Holbrook were actually lovers and they were plotting to get Katherine Ross to agree to the no-payout divorce.

I remember that quite vividly, so much so that I'm wondering if there is actually another version out there?

But then why not forget a no-payout and just kill the Stepford Wife off so that Holbrook and Oscar Goldman can continue their own love affair? Why leave any loose ends? Her lover Brad will be framed for her murder and no one will believe him. Also, she would have insisted that they both get their life insurance policies up to date, so he'd get a hefty payout with her death too.

And they live happily ever after. And no one could imagine it even if they were a mentalist. That would be an even more twisty ending!!!

1. There's no way a made-for-TV movie in 1979 would include a gay plot or subplot.
2. You must be thinking of the movie "Deathtrap" (1982).
