Its a plot hole. Normally any summer camp will have a few attractive campers at the very least

If this movie was made today, and they used a realistic looking cast, every single girl would be chunky, pierced, and tatted. I'll take the healthy look of this movie.

More realistic than "ugly" I'd say. The fashions and hairstyles didn't help.
