Gosh, I love this movie. Please Almighty DVD releaser whomever you is, please release Hot Stuff onto DVD!!!

I like it.

reply

I agree. It may have been flat in places, but the scene where they get high and laugh hysterically while trying to get rid of a bomb is worth it.

reply

AMEN! I've been looking for this movie on DVD forever. Anyone know if it's out on DVD yet?

reply

Agreed! With all the crud that has managed to make it on to DVD, it is far past time that Hot Stuff gets a good DVD release. No pan and scan, you DVD guys! Anamorphic widescreen, please. I can live with 2.1 sound if that helps.

I still have an excellent condition vhs video, but would definitely love this to be done right on dvd. The video is from Columbia/TriStar, so they should have the rights to the movie. My suggestion to anyone wanting certain titles on dvd would be to do their best to contact the movie studios and let them know that there is consumer interest in some of these older titles. Hot Stuff was a huge movie in its day and I remember seeing it hundreds of times on HBO when I was growing up. With all of the schlock, "what the hell is this" type movies that studios manage to put out on dvd, I am surprised that this one (which was a popular title) still has not made it.

is this movie on dvd yet?? and if not do es anyone know when it will be released????

reply

we definitly need a DVD on this one...this is one of my all time favorite comedies....seen it when I was a little girl and never forgot it....I can still sing the song that goes with it....
"hot stuff hot stuff...hot stuff......hooootttt stuuffff......."

Remember the scene with the weed and Dom Deluise...that was some funny stuff...I cant believe some guy tries and gets away with pawning weed....hahahaha....funny stuff.....

reply

How funny! I can't believe someone else out there recalls this movie from their childhood! Even if we can catch it playing on satellite so we can record it, that would be great.

I love this movie. I remember watching it back when it first came out, and then on various networks in the 80's. I would love to have it on DVD to see again if only to see the scene where Dom DeLuise gets high and laughs uncontrollably and then scarfs the lunches of his two fellow cops.
Jerry Reed and Suzanne Plechette are excellent in this movie and deliver some of the best lines. Bernie Casey as the police commander (or was it lieutenant) is wonderfully funny as the black son of a mafia don.
Some of the scenes are obviously improvised and all the more enjoyable.
A little piece of trivia-Dom Deluise's real life wife and three sons played his family in the movie. It's great to see the three boys before they became adult actors in a hilarious movie everyone would enjoy. Peter and David I recognize, but does anyone remember the thrid son's name? Just curious.

Tryi looking on Yahoo Auctions or www.ecrater.com I picked up a DVD from there of it... the quality was OK there was definetly not any restoration done or anything, but it beats my old beat up VHS tape.. now i'm gonna dump the old VHS on Amazon :-)

I actually saw this movie in a theatre. I taped it off of Cinemax on an old top load VHS and eventually burned on to a DVD+R. Better than nothing but yes, it is most deserving on a clean digital transfer to DVD. It really is a very funny movie that definitely takes you right back to 1979!

i agree it is one of my all time favs,,has it been released yet

As much as it saddens me to say this, a lot of times studios will cash in on a celebrity's passing (God knows eBay sellers do too). With the heartbreaking death of Suzanne Pleshette, maybe Hot Stuff will now finally find its home in the DVD market so that Suzanne's fans can have yet another film where she shined bright. I just hope that the movie isn't caught up in legal entanglements over rights issues or something. I'm 37 and when I was growing up, my family had HBO. And this was one of those movies that as a kid I watched over and over and over and over again. And there are so many movies from that era of say 1978 to 1984 that were huge successes and nowadays are nowhere to be found, except for the boards on here where fans are clamoring for them to be released on DVD.

Well, there now is a way you can get a legal "Hot Stuff" DVD.

From IMDB's Studio Briefing, 1/24/08:

"Can't Find a DVD? HP Will Make It

Hewlett-Packard has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to turn out DVDs from the studio's library whenever customers request them, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Thursday). The deal will allow consumers to order movies that ordinarily would not be stocked by dealers because they are too obscure or too old. HP indicated that it expects to sign similar deals with other studios. "We're hoping this provides another option to make available products that wouldn't necessarily garner widespread retail shelf space," Jason Spivak, head of strategic development at Sony Home Entertainment, told the Times. Added Doug Warner, head of HP's digital content business, "If studios can sell more catalog than previously, they can generate more money."

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Columbia (who made "Hot Stuff") a Sony studio?

will try thanks a bunch

Ahhh
I wasn't even born until 14 years after this was made - it probably wasn't even shown in England, but being a Peter Deluise fan, this would be a treat for me to have something with his whole family. I would love to get this on DVD.
Ican only find it on VHS though

Of course I'm mad you shot me in the as*!
I love 21 Jump Street.

I found a "foreign" release that looks like it is a bootleg. I found it when looking for the foreign release of Lassiter, which according to Amazon does exist. Since I bought it in good faith am not giving it up. It is a fair recording, certainly not a remastered authentic. The site was www.filmfinders.com.

This is such a goofy and fun film. I absolutely loved it as a kid. I would definitely snap it up on DVD if it were available
