This movie had such great potential!!!!!

It made so angry that this movie had such an interesting premise with real potential and it blew all of it!!

First off, it shouldn't have jumped into the story so quick. She just like disappears all the sudden, and it becomes really shallow really quickly. They should have spent a lot more time developing the characters, and making us actually like the people. Also it never even really said at the beginning why she disappeared before, and after she does, it's like no one is even phased or cares she's missing! LOL

And then he changes his identity to blend in and find his daughter??? How un-original is that? smh

It should have done something like he did something to her earlier in her life, or made it more evident, the religious pressure that was being put on her, that made her want to run away. And then after she goes missing he should feel ultimate guilt, and go on a rampage to feel like he has to make it up to her. THAT would have made it so much better.

Idk this movie had a chance to be great, but blew it in every facet. I was super pumped when I heard the concept, then ended up turning it off in the first 30 minutes. So stupid.

No. The director was right not to start the movie by showing the reasons why the daughter might want to run away. The movie would have been much worse, if we had first seen the daughter being dissatisfied with the life at her father's house. It was good that the daughter just disappeared out of the blue.

That's what I thought also; it was growing up in a religious household with a hot-headed father. He beat the crap out of nearly everyone he came in contact with including Niki who was helping him. Imagine how he probably treated his daughter?

Yeah, I felt it was formulaic, in spite of the promising premise.

It didn't help that the music sucked, except for some of the electronic moods and, yes, that country tune "Precious Memories."

Schrader did so much better on "The Yakuza" and "Taxi Driver!" Yakuza is one of my all-time favorites. Ever.

This one seems like they just pumped it out.

I think that it's a searing, very unique film that tackles subjects that no one wants to talk about.

IMO it seemed like the storytelling as you describe it was intentional, to put the viewer in the shoes of the father character. He paid almost no attention to his daughter, so he was completely clueless of her dissatisfaction and unhappiness at home, hence her disappearance is completely out of nowhere to him.
