Those three are all pretty good films, thanks.
I saw the first and third ones years ago, but just saw "The Paper Chase" last summer.

reply

yes!

reply

Hoosiers. Not just because it is a sports film similar to Breaking Away, but also because it meets your criteria quite well, a quiet, personal film with good cinematography

reply

I've seen it, thanks. It's a good film.

reply

Gotta throw Brokeback Mountain in there, the cinematography is amazing.

The Deer Hunter is quiet and personal?
Also, those Wenders films are quite different from most of the stuff you mention. Good list, though.

reply

i can see why the wenders movies would be in the same list based on the pacing & personal quality of his early films although i tend to see breaking away as much more populist.

reply

I'm surprised no one mentioned Rocky. I would definitely fit it into that category.

reply

The Riddle of the Sands. Michael York and Jenny Agutter. Great cinematography. Slow.

October Sky
Will Penny

FOR STARTERS...The Accidental Tourist...American Flyers...American Graffiti...The Big Chill...Sunshine State....
