I have to say that I liked all of the scenes mentioned above. However, I would like to add the scene where the Black and Alec are riding that track at night in the pouring rain. Great writing. Great acting. Great cinematography. The hoof stomps fading away. The stop watches ticking away. The shadows. The rain drops blurring the images of the people in the cars. And then the hooves fading back in. Alec slumped atop the Black. Rooney squatting in the rain talking to him. The guy with the white shoes getting out and stepping in the mud. The rain pouring off the hat. Just simply a perfect scene.

Thumbs up to Carroll Ballard and Caleb Deschanel. Beautifully directed and filmed!

So many scenes. The underwater scene when Alec and Black run in the water, and suddenly in a swirl of bubbles you see the boy's feet hanging down the sides of the horse. Just beautiful. I also like that brief moment when Napoleon and Snoe appear out of the fog. The race in the rain is just pure great film-making. I saw this film in the theater in '79, and while the kids in the audience seemed to enjoy it, it was the adults that really embraced it, including people standing up and cheering The Black on during the final race. One of my favorite movie memories.

For me the most powerful scene is when Black allows Alec to touch him...that is the moment that trust begins. Just my thought, but many other scenes amplify on this.

The final race scene, the way Mr. Ballard uses just the sound of the horse in the race itself. Also how he captured the majesty of the running horses. Then in the final turn slowly brings in the music and cuts to the island scenes. Of course Alex throwing off is helmet and goggles is pretty cool. One of my all time favorite scenes in cinema.

The scene how he tells his mother how much he wants to race the black, and how he in the horse are bound together. It felt so real

Hi folks,
there are many good scenes - of course the riding scenes on the island are really beautiful; and there was a moment when the Black trampled under his hooves a snake that was about to bite Kelly; if my memory is correct there was a close-up of Kelly's face, shortly before...
The scene at the beach where he had the argument with the adult men who wanted to leave the stallion on the island is also a highlight!
And in the 2nd part of the movie, when he's back home, there's a short but hot scene which I also loved ...but I won't give away which one I mean. Otherwise I might provoke a sh*tstorm, hahaha ;-)
