I agree his obesity is somewhat overstated, but it's significant to note Brando's weight because it created problems for the production. Basically Brando did not arrive prepared in the shape expected of him, but then he also insisted that he not be shown fat either, when Coppola suggested they could lean into it and present his character as having indulged himself. Brando put them in a position where they had try to present him as muscular when he wasn't in the actual shape for it.
