Would Ripley have blown the hatch...

...if she hadn't put Jones in the hyper sleep chamber? (speculation only, I have been attacked on here before for posting hypothetical scenarios). I've just been picturing Jones flying past the alien as the door on the Narcissus is opened.

reply

if she felt that way about the cat, she could have left it on the Nostromo

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

reply

Jones was a tough ol SOB.

He prolly would have grabbed something with a paw like those old hang in there baby posters.

reply

Haha, hilarious (and horrible, as I like cats very much) mental image! I would have never thought about this, thanks for sharing this while you could - before 20th February. I'm just very-very sad that IMDb is taking away the possibility of this forever...

It clearly shows the care the filmmakers put in this movie - they worked out the logistics of the cat. They are (just like Ripley who rescued Jonesy) good people 

I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me to see me looking back at you

Well in Aliens she opens the airlock when Newt is just wandering around and she almost gets sucked out, so i dont think she would care about the cat :'D

reply

That's a very good observation! I have never considered that before. Luckily it all worked out.

Imagine if the writer(s) of Alien made it so that the cat flies toward the open hatch when it opens but Ripley somehow stops it using her body.

reply

It was kind of obvious. Just saying.

reply

Of course it was obvious that Newt's life was in danger during that scene, and Bishop may have been sucked away into space. But I never considered the thoughts that Ripley's character may have gone through to most likely kill Newt during that desperate moment in order to get the alien queen out of the ship.

reply

Just out of curiosity, what would you have done in that moment? What decision would you have made?

reply

If i was Ripley , I'd have set the self destruct on the Nostromo , got back in the dropship and got the hell outa there!
Then get picked up by salvage crew.

I can just see the conversation in the Wutani boardroom,
'So so this "alien" of yours turned up again , everyone died , and you blew another ship up? riiiight.
This is definitely coming out of your wages this time!'

reply

I think probably not because the alien was much too close for comfort.

No she would have quitly put it in hypersleep after she saw the alien sleeping. then proceed to suitup and blow the hatch.

Come to think of it she didn't really go back for the cat. It was more like she left it in the hallway bend right before the airlock when the alien popped up. She attempted to disable the self destruct not because of the cat but because she needed more time as the Alien was blocking the entrace to the shuttle.

She did spend a good while searching for it though prior to putting it in the pet taxi.

reply

I don't think so. They way she kept looking for that cat before she headed out for the narcisiss spacecraft indicates she would have descritly placed the cat in hyper sleep and hope that the cat doesn't make a sound.

I always though the alien was sleeping and acting out what ever he was dreaming about during that scene. The comentary says the alien was dying already but it looked like it was dreaming to me.
