If they did a 1990s reboot, who'd you cast?

Brendan Fraser, Billy Zane, John Cusack?

reply

I always imagined a '90s era Courteney Cox or Tea Leoni as Lois Lane.

reply

Parker Posey would had been great too. Kevin Spacey would had been my immediate choice for Lex Luthor a la Superman Returns. Other choices could had been Gary Oldman or John Malkovich.

reply

John Malkovich... oh man, that would have been great.

reply

Nicholas Cage, obviously.

reply

He can be Lobo.

reply

I don't think Brendan Fraser would have been a good Superman. I don't know those other 2 actors you mentioned. Frankly though I also would love John Malkovich as Lex Luthor. But I'd want it to be the corrupt billionaire philanthropist Lex Luthor from John Byrne's 1986 Man of Steel series.

reply

Billy Zane was the evil fiance in Titanic. John Cusack? He's pretty well known.

reply

I hadn't watched Titanic since it first came out in 1997. I never wanted to watch it again cause of how sad it was.

reply

Hmm, well did you ever see The Phantom (1996), based off the comic strip hero? He fits the role of a superhero pretty well in that.

reply

I never saw that one.

reply

Well no one else did at the time, so that's okay.

SUMMER 1995

Unknown Actor - Superman/Kal-El - Age: 30
Courtney Cox - Lois Lane - Age: 31 (ended up playing a similar character in Scream the following year)
John Malkovich - Lex Luthor - Age: 42
Robert Redford - Jor-El - Age: 59
Jeff Bridges - Jonathan Kent - Age: 46 (no aging makeup during Clark's teenage years)
Lynda Carter - Martha Kent - Age: 44 (no aging makeup during Clark's teenage years, yes when he grows up)
Robert Duvall - Perry White - Age: 64 (played similar character in The Paper the previous year)
Chris Tucker - Jimmy Olsen - Age 24
Michael Keaton - Batman Cameo (even though Val Kilmer had taken over this is my timeline lol, Keaton never left the role)

reply

Not bad. Chris Tucker as Jimmy Olsen eh...Maybe Morris Chestnut instead?

reply

Jimmy Olsen is White.

reply

Steven Seagal

reply

george clooney

reply

Jerry O'Connell as the guy wearing the red cape along with Sabrina Lloyd as Lois Lane

You mean the cast that was going to be in Cage/Burton's Superman Lives in 1998? Or like a mid 90s remake of Superman The Movie (maybe combined with Superman II in one film like MOS) complete with crystal fortress/Krypton, sliver hair JorEl, wacky Lex, John Williams score ..(basically Superman Returns but 10y earlier with a different director)

If the later id go with:

Superman - an unknown 6ft 4 Christopher Reeve lookalike
Lois - Sandra Bullock
Lex - John Malkovich
Perry - Martin Crane
Jimmy - Will Wheaton
Zod - Jeremy Irons
Non - The Rock
Ursa - Famke Janssen
Jor El - John Travolta
Lara - Julia Ormond
Jonathan Kent - Kurt Russell
Martha - Mary Mcdonnell

Director - Roland Emmerich

reply

Not bad. I guess you meant John Mahoney for Perry White?
Well as far as story goes, I mean more as a full fledged reboot of the film franchise in a different continuity than the Reeve films. You know, I forgot about Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer). He'd been decent plus he's actually 6, 4. So with that in mind, I think my final choices would be:

Lois Lane - Jennifer Jason Leigh

Lex Luthor - John Malkovich

General Zod - Gary Oldman

Brainiac - Alan Rickman

Darkseid - Clancy Brown

Perry White - John Goodman

Jimmy Olsen - Christian Slater

Jonathan & Martha Kent - James Cromwell & Sally Field

Jor El & Lara - Ralph Fiennes & Emma Thompson

Lana Lang - Julianne Moore

.....

I think I'd have either Steven Spielberg or James Cameron as the director.

reply

Yes I meant Mahoney lol

Alt casting that was considering:
Courtney Cox - Lois
Martin Sheen - Perry
Rickman - Zod
Hopkins/Neeson/Costner - JorEl
Dennis Quaid/Redford/Bridges - Jonathan

Mine wouldn't be a sequel but a reboot too but with some elements of the Reeve films (but not as much as Returns) stuff like the crystal fortress/krypton (but on a much more massive scale), similar bright suit/same S design (but more detailed than spandex), filmed in colourful New York (but not showing recognisable land marks like Statue of Liberty, twin towers etc), elements of the Williams score (but not as the main score - basically itd have to be earned and then would played over the end credits after the new Superman did the smile/end flyby over earth), and the same 'Superman' crystal font logo on the posters
