I label this as a horror film (a disturbing masterpiece)
Midnight Express is on the list of my favorite films. It's one of those movies that you can just never forget after watching it. The film itself is like an experience. But I personally label this as a horror film. It's just so difficult, as well as depressing to watch. You can't help but feel bad for the main character. Being in a situation like that is the stuff nightmares are made of. Even though this isn't technically a horror film...I consider it one. And for a film from the 70s, I would say its a timeless classic. The leading actor was great. And I don't even care if the film holds factual to the true story. For just being a movie, it's good enough.
One scene I want to point out is, the scene when Billy loses his mind and savagely kills Rifki. That was one of the most brutal, intense, and unforgettable killing scenes in movie history. No guns, knives, or weapons were needed. It was just pure savage physical rage.
