John Carpenter's The Thing vs Invasion of Body Snatchers 78?

Which film did you prefer, they're both classics, remakes (or sequels of classics) awesome and filled with suspense and both known for their classic endings and famous scenes & moments. So, which did you prefer and why? John Carpenter's The Thing or 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

The Thing is an absolute classic, no comparison

IOTBS is a better, creepier movie.

The Thing has awesome SFX but doesn't get under my skin like Invasion did.

The Thing, though I love Invasion, it is a fantastic alien invasion film, I think The Thing is not only more consistent but has a more satisfying conclusion.

I am of the age where the originals were played on TV constantly when i was 7 to 10

The Thing never left an impression on me; I considered it OK. The remake I think is a great study in paranoia.

The original Invasion was a favorite even before I understood it was a metaphor. It had gravitas.

The original Thing and rake Invasion are just passable horror movies to me.

The Thing is more bad ass and cool, one of my favorites since I saw it for the first time on VHS circa 1983. Hell, I already loved it just from reading previews in Fangoria and seeing reviews and hearing people who'd seen it talk about it.

Body Snatchers 1978 is more on the nerdy/wimpy side and doesn't have a current-year fanbase of dude bros, (you can always find tons of relatively new youtube videos about The Thing, not so many for Body Snatchers) but it's a stone cold classic that has stood the test of time and nobody can fuck with that. More respectable. Snooty adults weren't ashamed to admit they liked Body Snatchers, whereas The Thing had a reputation for being a low brow gore/gross-out movie meant to appeal to "kids" (R rating notwithstanding.)

Fond memories of reading my sister's copy of the Body Snatchers Fotonovel a thousand times before I finally got to see it, probably around the same time as The Thing.

When it comes to these sci-fi horror remakes circa the 70s and 80s;

1. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
2. The Fly (1986)
3. The Thing (1982)
4. The Blob (1988)

Only a handful of movies can go toe-to-toe with IOTBS in my opinion.

The only one of those four that is a remake is The Blob. The other three are all (second) adaptations of their written source material - the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney, George Langelaan's 1957 short story The Fly, and the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There?.
