Halloween (1978) vs Friday the 13th (1980)

which is better??

I would have said Halloween for most my life but I'm starting to lean towards Friday the 13th.

Halloween has better cinematography, music and is more suspenseful.

F13 has better kills/gore, more attractive women and a superior atmosphere. I prefer the location in it by far. I think the back story is better too, a vengeful mother and a drowned son is superior to an escaped motiveless loony. The ending while not making much sense, is superior.

Acting wise they're pretty equal. Donald Pleasence and Betsy Palmer are the standouts.

Screenplays are pretty similar. A bulk of both movies is a bunch of teens goofing around.

Halloween has better cinematography, but Friday the 13th is more fun to watch. As a franchise, f13 is also much better imo.

Halloween by a country mile.

Halloween is a classic. A labour of love made by people who cared about movies.

Friday 13th is trash made by some sleazy people who were inspired only to rip off and cash in on Halloween's success.

lol what a dumb statement. Just because something is a copycat doesn't automatically mean it's bad.

Halloween had palm trees in Haddonfield, Illinois. "People who love movies" would never miss a detail like that. Get off the high horse!

reply

They had to shoot in Hollywood where they couldn't conceal some of the trees and the fact it was spring when they shot. I couldn't give a shit about one palm tree being visible for 1.5 seconds.

Who said anything about a copycat. They ripped off Halloween's popularity and the movie was made by people with a fraction of the talent trying to cash in.

They were so desperate they decided to hack someone's live pet snake to death on camera to try and earn some of that snuff film notoriety.

To answer this question properly would require one to think this through in terms of how both movies in the beginning focused more on an insane homicidal maniac murdering hapless teens, but as the movies wore on, they somehow became unstoppable killing machines, whether it was from being shot with every kind of weapon you can think of, blown up, beaten up, chopped up and yet, these 2 maniacs still keep coming back.. Hell, they should've sent Jason and Michael Myers over to Vietnam. They would've had a field day over there.. I'm guessing Friday the 13th had more of the elaborate killings, but it's a tough call
