Carpenter should of never let Debra Hill write any of the dialogue
That whole walk home from school is just pure cringe from
Beginning to end. Such a shame because John wrote great dialogue for Dr Loomis.

No female in the history of High School ever said “so I always forget my books, who needs books anyways, I mean you don’t ever really need your books”.
That’s just bad dialogue and you know it, come on now.

hahha.
kids today may surprise us though.. maybe the dialogue predicted the future of morons.
Yeah, TOTALLY!!!
shareIt's more realistic than the dialogue the remake teenagers had, and I don't mind that film.
shareIf you are talking about the girls' dialogue on the walk home from school, that's pretty dang realistic and accurate. When I was in high school and overhead (and slightly eavesdropped) on girls talking in the halls between classes, before and after school, at lunch, out in the school parking lot, and also in classes, they sounded EXACTLY like how Laurie, Annie, and Lynda talked in the remake when they were walking home from school. I've even overheard and eavesdropped on my older sister and her friends talking to each other. They sounded VERY much like the three girls in the remake. I still hear that kind of talk among teen girls when I'm out and about and overhear their conversations when they walk by or if I walk by them. Sometimes college girls sound like that too.
shareI'm going to be honest, I barely remember typing the post I made from 3 months ago, and I honestly don't know why I thought that way. I'm just going to assume I had a bad day or something when I wrote it, because I'm actually in 100% agreement with you about the teen dialogue in the remake. College girls especially talk the way the teenagers in the movie did. I'll even say it, some of today's teenagers and young adults (depending on where you live and the environment the teens are raised in I guess) are far more worse than the teenagers in the Rob Zombie film. Again, I don't know why I made that post 3 months ago, but I am in agreement with you.
shareI haven't seen the remake since '07. Guessing the dialogue was quite sexual? If so it's probably realistic!
shareI figured the dialogue seemed strange to me BECAUSE it was written by a girl. Seems like she did exactly what she was supposed to do.
share16 year old females aren't discussing major world events or how to split the atom. I had no problem with it, sounded believable and gave the characters individual traits.
share"should of"
Those in glass houses...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought their dialogue didn't ring true, like the references to the driver of the station wagon speeding and the follow-up (rolling my eyes).
shareBullshit.
shareI don't think that dialog was great, nor wildly out of place and unrealistic. In any case, it's not like the producers of Halloween contracted Paddy Chayefsky to work on a script for 10 months prior to shooting. It was made on a ridiculously low budget under a tight schedule. No doubt there was little time to look at dailies, refine the dialog, and reshoot scenes so that later they could pick and choose among numerous alternatives in the editing room. Considering this and how great most of the rest of the film is, I've always ignored the slight imperfections here and there and cherish this movie as a miracle of superb amateur film making.
shareI've never minded the dialogue at all, personally. It seems cute and probably semi-accurate for the time period.
