it's strange how i never.......

noticed back in 78 that all the actors are much too old.

Because you were five?? 🤭 I knew the actors were older than teenagers, but I had no idea just how old some of them were.

I just watched it tonight for first time in forever and first time in HD. Stockard Channing who played Rizzo leader of the Pink Ladies was 34 years old and in HD it's obviously a women in her 30's pretending to be a high school chic is hilarious.

The original Bway show started in present day at a school reunion. Then went back in time to their senior year. So it made sense that the actors didn’t look like teens. That extra was cut out of the movie. I wonder if they filmed the reunion part and then cut it out. Because then it makes sense why everyone was cast older.

"The original Bway show started in present day at a school reunion"

According to Wikipedia, the original show was set a reunion in 1959 and they flashed back to their last year of high school in 1958.

"I wonder if they filmed the reunion part and cut it out"

I doubt it. The original show was an ensemble. The film was made first and foremost as a star vehicle for John Travolta as part of his three picture deal with Paramount - Saturday Night Fever, this, and Urban Cowboy. So he was able to choose the Sandy he wanted, he got to sing Greased Lightning instead of Kenickie etc.

So with Danny been ultimately the main focus, his summer with Sandy at the beginning replaces the reunion.

Now that is interesting. Because the original Danny, Barry Bostwick, looked older than half the cast of the film.

I saw the Bway show when i was very little, so i don’t recall everything.

They used to cast older at the time.
