White Trash Cinema

I actually have a taste for these kind of films, especially the majority of Eastwood films. But you can't deny this old flick appeals to the White Trash persuasion, rednecks, honkytonks, losers, low-lives and regular unsophisticated Americans

They were the intended audience.

I agree, although I think it's about as close to Snakes on a Plane that Clint got to make. I mean, the guy hits another guy with a FISH! What is this, Monty Python? And the montage of Philo and Clyde walking around drunk at night to that country ballad (and the subsequent "let's get Clyde laid" mission) is about the funniest thing there is next to "Get off my lawn!"

The day I follow Aubrey Hale Clayton on a wet deck - that day, I cut my throat.

I wouldn't say white trash. They are just goofy movies that do not require a ton of thought. When my five year old nephew comes over I put them on and he loves them. Come to think of it, he is starting to grow a mullet, and instead of playing house with his friends, he plays trailer home. Maybe you have a point.

I wanted to say something snarky but won't. I'd hate to think I was a loser and a low-life because I liked this movie, but geniuses like the original poster must know more than I.

How are they arrogant, if they admit to liking it themselves??!

I don't think I'd exactly agree with that since my sister, my husband and I all have Masters Degrees. This is what Stephen King calls a "Saturday popcorn movie." You go, you eat your popcorn, you laugh and then you go back to the real world where taking a jab to the face doesn't just rock you back on your heels. Fight Club is reality. This is just for fun. You don't have to be a low-life loser or a redneck to just want to spend 90 minutes laughing.

Besides it's a pleasure to watch a man who could wipe the floor with Chuck Norris without breaking a sweat. ;)

It's exactly the same as the likes of Smokey and the Bandit, etc... It's a hick film; featuring hicks and lapped up by hicks... Doesn't mean that non-hicks can't also enjoy it, though, so there's no reason for anybody to be offended!

Well, I really enjoyed this movie and its sequel. Im no redneck hick or whatever... I live in a suburban area of my home town here on the East Coast of Australia. Im a qualified History teacher and completed my University degree with high destinctions. Personally, I LOVE these kinds of urban cowboy movies. Smokey and the Bandit is a favourite, plus I loved The Dukes of Hazard as a kid on TV and still do.

I also like movies like Rompa Stompa, doesnt mean Im a Neo-Nazi. I also love movies about gangs in South Central, Detroit and New York City, doesnt mean Im part oif a gang. Just because someone enjoys a certain type of movie doesnt mean that they are oif the same ilk as those characters in the films they enjoy.

Whats wrong with simply enjoying an hour and a half or two hours of mindless 'popcorn' fun?

Seriously, why label people?
