I'm not a fan of remakes and this movie is a classic....grossed alot of money in it's day, along with the sequel. This movie is ripe to be remade though. The acting wasn't great in the original and the fight scenes could be polished and made more hard hitting. But the question is "who would play which part?" I am truly stumped as to who can play the lead role of Philo Beddoe.

Philo - Brad Pitt or Matthew McConaughey
Orville - Mark Ruffalo or Sean William Scott or Steve Zahn
Lynn Halsey-Taylor - ?
Ma - Lin Shaye
Echoe - Elisha Cuthbert(?)
Tank Murdoch -

It wouldn't work because country music is so much worse now than it was in 1978.

Use the same songs from the original, and I dont mean "hire new popular bands to do covers of the songs" I mean use the same songs, if there must be a new song, make it a CW song from the 70s.

why does it need to be remade at all? you dont have the attention span to watch the one from 1978?

It's not about attention span, it's about a NEED in america for mroe movies with monkies! How could anyone not have the attention span for this movie? It's just a little dated, and I think a remake might actually come out better.

Actually, I watched the 2 movies on mulitiple occassions when I was deployed. I even ordered them from online and had them shipped to me in the middle east so I could watch them again and again. So your "attention span" comment is void. I love the movies, even if they are corny and a bit slow....but I'd like them to be remade

Good idea of having the music from the original, but remade by some of the country singers of today....just not turned into the poppy-country that's going around

I vote no in a remake, but matt over brad, Everytime I watch this movie it brings me to a different time when you could get away with so many things. Just watch the first five minutes and tell me how many moving violations, littering, and asault charges Philo would get today.

And why should this be remade...?

This movie is a classic...not great not bad, just perfect. The movie doesn't appeal to evereyone, but it should. It's just a fun movie. It has a great cast, & it's a simple fun film.

I hate movie makers who are too lazy to get new people to write movies, so they feel that every film needs to be remade. And people who post that this film needs to be remade are just as bad.

It wouldn't bother me at all if this was remade, I've only seen it 2-3 times back in the 80's when it was on TV, does seem a little dull but I guess it falls into that certain kind of comedy.

I like the pacing, it's a road-trip sorta movie and it's fitting that it's longish with some slow parts.

I'm not for a remake, this is the sort of thing that is of a certain time and place and I don't think it would work again.

I am totally with you - a remake would just not work!!
...it's a 70s roadmovie and it reflects and America that doesn't exist anymore ...it's the time and cast that make that movie what it is ...a remake is pointless! ...how could anybody even think about it!?

i don't think there's a death penalty in any country for being irritating, but these guys in hollywood who insist on remaking everything from this period are strong arguments for it

I hate to break the news to all of you but they are planning a remake of this and that wrestler, The Rock, is supposed to play Philo. I don't know about anyone else but I find this to be a total desecration! If it aint broke don't fix it!

Was going to post this as well. There was talk of a remake of Dewayne Johnson playing the Philo role.. I don't know where that stands now though with his full schedule. GI Joe 3, fast and furious 7-10 (if he shows up in all of them) as well as planned F&F spin off for his Hobbes character.

A remake would be terrible just like most remakes are. And the fact that it's "dated" is not a bad thing. Some people just can't watch anything that was made before the 90's and they are really missing out because new movies suck compared to the old ones. I don't get today's youth. Truly a different breed of people now. Sad.
