So he was coherent enough to send tons of cash back to America but he didn't recognize Mike when Mike showed up? Can anyone explain this? Was he simply pretending to not recognize Mike? Or is this kind of an odd little plot hole?

shareI thought the exact same. I didn't get that. Nick had no trouble remembering Steven and sending him loads of cash, but he didn't recognize Michael? That didn't make sense to me either. So glad someone else saw it as well.
shareFrom what I remember, I think Nick pretended not to recognise him, that is why Michael volunteered to take part in the roulette game to force Nick to admit he knows him. Great performances from all.
shareI always assumed Nick had been sending the cash to Stephen for quite some time. We see he’s got track marks, and that’s why he’s so out of it and not responding to Michael, but he probably sent the packages when not in such an abused state during the previous months.
shareI didn't get the impression that Nick didn't recognize Mike. Nick react as a person who abandon life, who as a death wish, this's why he pretending he didn't know him. Nick didn't want anyone to help him. I'm pretty sure that Nick feel guilty about Steven condition so he send him money (In any case, money has no more meaning for him). He got to the helicopter and Steven didn't.
