I can't believe this film is from the 70s.

It's probably one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, and definitely the best looking of the 70s(and maybe best in quality). It would be wonderful to see this in theaters, but the visual beauty is still fantastic on my television. The score was excellent, too.

I'd also like the performance (mainly the voiceover) by Linda Manz. She did a fantastic job.

Well, if you don't have a story to tell or anything by way of interesting characters, you better make damn sure your film is pretty to look at.

If you don't recognize a story in Days Of Heaven, you won't recognize it anywhere - unless you have some kind of uniquely individual definition for "story" the rest of the world is unaware of.

Now, on the other hand, if you were to say the story in DOH isn't particularly complex or complicated, then I'd certainly agree.

My original comment was about the age of the film, but I understand that the 70s were a great decade for films.

I think so too. This film would never even get made today, in this era of superheroes and crappy sequels, CGI and pretty boy actors who can't act.

Whoever doesn't like it, thinks it doesn't tell a story, or is somehow irked by how "pretty" the film is, too bad. Your loss.

The cinematography was striking for me as well. I've got HD transmission on a very high quality television.

I'd like to see it again on a DVD where I can employ subtitles not only for the voice over but also for the dialogue.

Some of the images in Days of Heaven are unbelievably stunning, I wish I had had the chance to see this film on the big screen. The train crossing the trestle, the locust swarm and the fire are breathtaking movie moments. One of the most visually beautiful films ever.
