One of the dumbest movies

Action! Action! Lot's of action, for sure, but this movie is premised on the most ridiculous concept ever. It starts with a barfight with cops and ends up a free-for-all with all these truckers joining in with the convoy. We would all have to think truckers all hate cops enough to give up their load distribution to join in. Never mind even that they are all performing criminal acts!!!! The concept is simple, a bad sheriff (Borgnine) has it in for the truckers and harasses them, and this justifies utter contempt for the law. Ali MacGraw is a total washout as an actress, good thing she wore short white shorts and looked cute, cause that's all she had going for her. So anyway, the truckers knock down barricades, hit police cars, endanger lives, etc. etc., so if the big law enforcement firepower comes into play they could all be dead. Good for inane illogical action movie.

This movie was meant to be and marketed as an action, drive in theater type movie, however there are hints of greatness due to the talent involved. The photography during the opening credits is excellent, also the rollover scene, done in Peckinpah's trademark slow motion.Kris Kristofferson was entirely believable as a legendary independant truck driver and Ernest Borgnine was excellent as usual.
Unfotunately there were too many weaknesses. The script was campy at best. The editing was a complete hack job.In my opinion the weakest part of the entire movie was Ali MacGraw. She was unattractive and her acting was terrible

Pretty much, but it does have camp value, which makes it better than the intolerable Killer Elite. Even compared to Smokey and the Bandit, a childhood favorite of mine, it's pretty bad.

I think the posts about how deep and meaningful the film is are pretty funny, but that's just me. This isn't a Fellini film for Christ's sake, it's a movie based on a novelty song that was popular for about three minutes. I've no doubt Peckinpah was trying to stuff some thematic material into the mix but that doesn't make it any better - if anything it makes it more obnoxious.
