US Viewers

Out of curiousity how many people in this forum are from the US ?

I know that the show was really popular in the UK but I've always wondered about how popular it was in the USA

I heard that that when it first screened there, it was number one in the ratings and that it developed a bit of a cult following.

Prisoner (known in US as Prisoner: Cell Block H) was shown 1979/80 on a popular local channel that later became a Fox Affiliate. The station broadcast roughly six weeks of episodes before canceling the series. The station gave incorrect wrap ups of the main characters . Example: Meg and the doctor would live happily ever after, but on Meg's terms.
Later in the year, another local station showed the series for quite a few months. Lizzie was wrongfully accused, and set to be released. Doreen finds true love while working at a Nursery, Sigrid Thornton enters the cast, and elevated the series as a college student behind bars for murdering her mother's murderer. A month or so later, it was revealed that the station in the SF Bay Area was the only station in US that was airing the series, and the distributors didn't think it was feasible to continue sending episodes of the series to the US.

I am from Chicago and I remember watching it with my very laid back parents when I was 12-13 back in 79. It was censored by the FCC back in the day. Now Prisoner Cell Block H is my new found favorite show.
