What happened to Owen & Beru

I never really understood that either since we are so familiar with the whole laser blast thing. Later on I likened them to having flame throwers and they burnt them, much like the squads of US soldiers who went around Vietnam looking for VC.

And I guess to leave the bodies as examples of what happens to sympathisers against the Empire.

There's a theory that Boba Fett did it and this is the effect of the "disintegrations" that Darth Vader warns him about in Empire Strikes Back.

I've never personally held that theory (doesn't really seem to describe disintegrating somebody) but maybe it was a bounty hunter with brutal methods?

My personal theory is that they were trying to torture them to get information from them and maybe left the charred bones as a way to terrify Luke.
