Soldier of Orange vs. Black Book
Which Verhoeven WWII film do you prefer? Soldier of Orange, or Black Book?
I found Black Book to be the more engaging film, which is mostly why I like it more than Soldier of Orange.

You cannot compare ... BB 2006 ... SOO 1977. BB has a huge technical advantage which resulted in a much more engaging film. Yet SOO feels much more genuine.
shareBlack Book flows a lot better cause it's only set on one character Rachel (Carice Van Houten) and it's pretty OTT in places, and as someone else said they had the budget and Technical advantage for stuff that Soldier of Orange didn't have.
I think Soldier of Orange is probably more factual on the resistance side of things. It doesn't help outside of Rutger Haeur's Eric and to a certain extent Jeroen Krabbe Guus that the other friend's barely get any Character building. Also the women unlike Rachel are just there to be sex objects especially in the case of Belinda Meildijk's Esther who like Rachel is Jewish, they could have gone in deeper with her character. All she is there for is to pine for Erik, get her kit off (which is nice) and at the end she doesn't seem bothered with him. Even at 2hrs 30mins it drags in places, but with a great charismatic performance from Haeur and some tense scenes it's a very good solid WW II film.
I agree with their IMDB ratings on this one.
