To expect a film made in 1976 to not be dated isn't realistic, SNF is about a culture, time, place, fashions and music of a certain time, the fact that it's dated means nothing, the movie has become a cultural iconic time capsule that documents a period in time, the 70's.

In a way, though, it's not dated: Someone feeling stuck, in a dead-end job and dysfunctional family, who wants to "break out," is very relatable.

That's exactly right. It's the same with music. The music I was crazy over in the 80s sounds absurd to me now. The music stayed the same - I changed.
